Following the Doctor's Orders

“Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:29).

Above all else, God wants to restore the relationship. What relationship? The relationship that was severed by our disobedience and love for the things of the world. We broke trust with the Almighty when we chose selfishness and sin over righteousness and obedience. We confessed love with our lips only and not by our actions. We failed to love Him and because of this, the relationship suffered.

But God in all His brilliance chose to send Jesus Christ--the Door, the Good Shepherd, the Living Water, the Bread of Life, the Good Teacher--to save us from ourselves. He is the Great Physician and the Remedy. We have to acknowledge that we are sick before healing can take place, and we have to follow the Remedy so that we may attain life. God knows that it’s not if we worship but what we worship that will either elevate or destroy us. Christ is the Remedy; He is the cure to the sin that ails us. We must be a people that choose all of Him in truth and love. We must be a people reconciled to God, and this only happens if we choose to follow the Doctor’s Orders.

I said, “LORD, be merciful to me, Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You” (Psalm 41:4).

Shalom,
