Like Our Father

“But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust”.

Matthew 5:44-45

It’s amazing how children resemble their parents. From one generation to another, one is able to see similarities in facial features, mannerisms, character, and behavior. We, as believers of His word, should look like our Father in character, speech, and how we love one another. The evidence for this is found in and through the life of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Jesus exhibited the character of the Father and worked the will of His Father. His meat, his work, and his mission were to please the Father in all things, and if Yahshua is truly our teacher, then his work and mission will be ours as well. We are seen as part of the family when we choose to align our will with the Father’s will (Mark 3:35). Christ came in the Father’s name (John 5:43) to do the will of the One who sent him (John 6:38).

To grow in the knowledge and character of Christ is to grow in the knowledge and character of the Father. “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him” (John 14:7). To be like the Father we have to choose to be like Christ in all things. To be dressed like Him...To be clothed like Him...To have a mind like Him focused on kingdom work, loving YAH with our everything and loving our neighbor as we love ourselves should be our greatest desires. And when it is, we will be like our Father.

And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin…”

Exodus 34:6-7
